1 திராட்சரசம் பரியாசஞ்செய்யும், மதுபானம் அமளிபண்ணும்; அதினால் மயங்குகிற ஒருவனும் ஞானவானல்ல.

1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

2 ராஜாவின் உறுக்குதல் சிங்கத்தின் கெர்ச்சிப்புக்குச் சமானம்; அவனைக் கோபப்படுத்துகிறவன் தன் பிராணனுக்கே துரோகஞ்செய்கிறான்.

2 The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.

3 வழக்குக்கு விலகுவது மனுஷனுக்கு மேன்மை; மூடனானவன் எவனும் அதிலே தலையிட்டுக்கொள்வான்.

3 It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.

4 சோம்பேறி குளிருகிறதென்று உழமாட்டான், அறுப்பிலே பிச்சைகேட்டாலும் அவனுக்கு ஒன்றுங்கிடையாது.

4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

5 மனுஷனுடைய இருதயத்திலுள்ள யோசனை ஆழமான தண்ணீர்போலிருக்கிறது; புத்திமானோ அதை மொண்டெடுப்பான்.

5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.

6 மனுஷர் பெரும்பாலும் தங்கள் தயாளத்தைப் பிரசித்தப்படுத்துவார்கள்; உண்மையான மனுஷனைக் கண்டுபிடிப்பவன் யார்?

6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?

7 நீதிமான் தன் உத்தமத்திலே நடக்கிறான்; அவனுக்குப் பிறகு அவன் பிள்ளைகளும் பாக்கியவான்களாயிருப்பார்கள்.

7 The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.

8 நியாயாசனத்தில் வீற்றிருக்கும் ராஜா தன் கண்களினால் சகல பொல்லாப்பையும் சிதறப்பண்ணுகிறான்.

8 A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.

9 என் இருதயத்தைச் சுத்தமாக்கினேன், என் பாவமறத் துப்புரவானேன் என்று சொல்லத்தக்கவன் யார்?

9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

10 வெவ்வேறான நிறைகல்லும், வெவ்வேறான மரக்காலும் ஆகிய இவ்விரண்டும் கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானவைகள்.

10 Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.

11 பிள்ளையானாலும், அதின் செய்கை சுத்தமோ செம்மையோ என்பது, அதின் நடக்கையினால் விளங்கும்.

11 Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

12 கேட்கிற காதும், காண்கிற கண்ணும் ஆகிய இவ்விரண்டையும் கர்த்தர் உண்டாக்கினார்.

12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.

13 தூக்கத்தை விரும்பாதே, விரும்பினால் தரித்திரனாவாய்; கண் விழித்திரு, அப்பொழுது ஆகாரத்தினால் திருப்தியாவாய்.

13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

14 கொள்ளுகிறவன்: நல்லதல்ல, நல்லதல்ல என்பான்; போய்விட்டபின்போ மெச்சிக்கொள்வான்.

14 It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.

15 பொன்னும் மிகுதியான முத்துக்களும் உண்டு; அறிவுள்ள உதடுகளோ விலையுயர்ந்த இரத்தினம்.

15 There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.

16 அந்நியனுக்காகப் பிணைப்பட்டவனுடைய வஸ்திரத்தை எடுத்துக்கொள்; அந்நிய ஸ்திரீயினிமித்தம் அவன் கையில் ஈடு வாங்கிக்கொள்.

16 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

17 வஞ்சனையினால் வந்த போஜனம் மனுஷனுக்கு இன்பமாயிருக்கும்; பின்போ அவனுடைய வாய் பருக்கைக் கற்களால் நிரப்பப்படும்.

17 Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

18 ஆலோசனையினால் எண்ணங்கள் ஸ்திரப்படும்; நல்யோசனை செய்து யுத்தம்பண்ணு.

18 Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.

19 தூற்றிக்கொண்டு திரிகிறவன் இரகசியங்களை வெளிப்படுத்துவான்; ஆதலால் தன் உதடுகளினால் அலப்புகிறவனோடே கலவாதே.

19 He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.

20 தன் தகப்பனையும் தன் தாயையும் தூஷிக்கிறவனுடைய தீபம் காரிருளில் அணைந்துபோம்.

20 Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

21 ஆரம்பத்திலே துரிதமாகக் கிடைத்த சுதந்தரம் முடிவிலே ஆசீர்வாதம் பெறாது.

21 An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.

22 தீமைக்குச் சரிக்கட்டுவேன் என்று சொல்லாதே; கர்த்தருக்குக் காத்திரு, அவர் உன்னை இரட்சிப்பார்.

22 Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

23 வெவ்வேறான நிறைகற்கள் கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானவைகள்; கள்ளத்தராசு நல்லதல்ல.

23 Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.

24 கர்த்தராலே மனுஷருடைய நடைகள் வாய்க்கும்; ஆகையால் மனுஷன் தன் வழியை அறிந்துகொள்வதெப்படி?

24 Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

25 பரிசுத்தமானதை விழுங்குகிறதும், பொருத்தனை செய்தபின்பு யோசிக்கிறதும், மனுஷனுக்குக் கண்ணியாயிருக்கும்.

25 It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry.

26 ஞானமுள்ள ராஜா துன்மார்க்கரைச் சிதறடித்து, அவர்கள்மேல் உருளையை உருட்டுவான்.

26 A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.

27 மனுஷனுடைய ஆவி கர்த்தர் தந்த தீபமாயிருக்கிறது; அது உள்ளத்திலுள்ளவைகளையெல்லாம் ஆராய்ந்துபார்க்கும்.

27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

28 தயையும் சத்தியமும் ராஜாவைக் காக்கும்; தயையினாலே தன் சிங்காசனத்தை நிற்கப்பண்ணுவான்.

28 Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.

29 வாலிபரின் அலங்காரம் அவர்கள் பராக்கிரமம்; முதிர்வயதானவர்களின் மகிமை அவர்கள் நரை.

29 The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the grey head.

30 காயத்தின் தழும்புகளும் உள்ளத்தில் உறைக்கும் அடிகளும், பொல்லாதவனை அழுக்கறத் துடைக்கும்.

30 The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.
