35.  இப்பொழுது நான் எண்பது வயதுள்ளவன்; இனி நலமானது இன்னதென்றும் தீதானது இன்னதென்றும் எனக்குத் தெரியுமோ? புசிக்கிறதும் குடிக்கிறதும் உமது அடியேனுக்கு ருசிகரமாயிருக்குமோ? சங்கீதக்காரர் சங்கீதக்காரிகளுடைய சத்தத்தை இனிக் கேட்கக்கூடுமோ? உமது அடியேனாகிய நான் இனி ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனுக்குப் பாரமாயிருக்கவேண்டியது என்ன?

35.  I am this day fourscore years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?
