1 என் கண்களோடே உடன்படிக்கைபண்ணின நான் ஒரு கன்னிகையின்மேல் நினைப்பாயிருப்பதெப்படி?

1 I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

2 அப்பொழுது உன்னதங்களிலிருந்து தேவன் அளிக்கும் பங்கும் உன்னதத்திலிருந்து சர்வவல்லவர் கொடுக்கும் சுதந்தரமும் கிடைக்குமோ?

2 For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

3 மாறுபாடானவனுக்கு ஆபத்தும், அக்கிரமச் செய்கைக்காரருக்கு ஆக்கினையுமல்லவோ கிடைக்கும்.

3 Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

4 அவர் என் வழிகளைப் பார்த்து என் நடைகளையெல்லாம் எண்ணுகிறார் அல்லவோ?

4 Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

5 நான் மாயையிலே நடந்தேனோ, என் கால் கபடுசெய்யத் தீவிரித்ததோ என்று,

5 If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

6 சுமுத்திரையான தராசிலே தேவன் என்னை நிறுத்து, என் உத்தமத்தை அறிவாராக.

6 Let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know mine integrity.

7 என் நடைகள் வழியைவிட்டு விலகினதும், என் இருதயம் என் கண்களைப் பின்தொடர்ந்ததும், ஏதாகிலும் ஒரு மாசு என் கைகளில் ஒட்டிக்கொண்டதும் உண்டானால்,

7 If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;

8 அப்பொழுது நான் விதைத்ததை வேறொருவன் புசிப்பானாக; என் பயிர்கள் வேரற்றுப்போகக்கடவது.

8 Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.

9 என் மனம் யாதொரு ஸ்திரீயின்மேல் மயங்கி அயலானுடைய வாசலை நான் எட்டிப்பார்த்ததுண்டனால்,

9 If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;

10 அப்பொழுது என் மனைவி வேறொருவனுக்கு மாவரைப்பாளாக; வேற்றுமனிதர் அவள்மேல் சாய்வார்களாக.

10 Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.

11 அது தோஷம், அது நியாயாதிபதிகளால் விசாரிக்கப்படும் அக்கிரமமாமே.

11 For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.

12 அது பாதாளபரியந்தம் பட்சிக்கும் அக்கினியாய் என் சம்பத்தையெல்லாம் நிர்மூலமாக்கும்.

12 For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.

13 என் வேலைக்காரனானாலும், என் வேலைக்காரியானாலும், என்னோடு வழக்காடும்போது, அவர்கள் நியாயத்தை நான் அசட்டைபண்ணியிருந்தால்,

13 If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

14 தேவன் எழும்பும்போது, நான் என்ன செய்வேன்; அவர் விசாரிக்கும்போது, நான் அவருக்கு என்ன மறுஉத்தரவு சொல்லுவேன்.

14 What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

15 தாயின் கர்ப்பத்தில் என்னை உண்டுபண்ணினவர் அவளையும் உண்டுபண்ணினார் அல்லவோ? ஒரேவிதமான கர்ப்பத்திலே எங்களை உருவாக்கினார் அல்லவோ?

15 Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

16 எளியவர்கள் வாஞ்சித்ததை நான் கொடாதிருந்து, விதவையின் கண்களைப் பூத்துப்போகப்பண்ணி,

16 If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

17 தாய்தகப்பனில்லாத பிள்ளை என் ஆகாரத்தில் சாப்பிடாமல், நான் ஒருவனாய்ச் சாப்பிட்டதுண்டோ?

17 Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

18 என் சிறுவயதுமுதல் அவன் தகப்பனிடத்தில் வளர்வதுபோல என்னோடே வளர்ந்தான்; நான் என் தாயின் கர்ப்பத்திலே பிறந்ததுமுதல் அப்படிப்பட்டவர்களைக் கைலாகுகொடுத்து நடத்தினேன்.

18 (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;)

19 ஒருவன் உடுப்பில்லாததினால் மடிந்துபோகிறதையும், ஏழைக்கு மூட வஸ்திரமில்லாயிருக்கிறதையும் நான் கண்டபோது,

19 If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;

20 அவன் என் ஆட்டுமயிர்க் கம்பளியினாலே அனல்கொண்டதினால், அவன் இடை என்னைப் புகழாதிருந்ததும்,

20 If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

21 ஒலிமுகவாசலில் எனக்குச் செல்வாக்கு உண்டென்று நான் கண்டு, திக்கற்றவனுக்கு விரோதமாய் என் கையை நீட்டினதும் உண்டானால்,

21 If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

22 என் கைப்பட்டை தோளிலிருந்து சரிந்து, என் புயத்து எலும்பு முறிந்துபோவதாக.

22 Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

23 தேவன் ஆக்கினையிடுவார் என்றும், அவருடைய மகத்துவத்தை உத்தரிக்கக் கூடாது என்றும் எனக்குப் பயங்கரமாயிருந்தது.

23 For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

24 நான் பொன்னின்மேல் என் நம்பிக்கையை வைத்து, தங்கத்தைப்பார்த்து: நீ என் ஆதரவு என்று நான் சொன்னதும்,

24 If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

25 என் ஆஸ்திபெரியதென்றும், என் கைக்கு மிகுதியும் கிடைத்ததென்றும் நான் மகிழ்ந்ததும்,

25 If I rejoice because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;

26 சூரியன் பிரகாசிக்கும்போதும், அல்லது சந்திரன் மகிமையாய்ச் செல்லும்போதும் நான் அதை நோக்கி:

26 If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;

27 என் மனம் இரகசியமாய் மயக்கப்பட்டு, என் வாய் என் கையை முத்தி செய்ததுண்டானால்,

27 And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:

28 இதுவும் நியாயாதிபதிகளால் விசாரிக்கப்படத்தக்க அக்கிரமமாயிருக்கும்; அதினால் உன்னதத்திலிருக்கிற தேவனை மறுதலிப்பேனே.

28 This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.

29 என் பகைஞனுடைய ஆபத்திலே நான் மகிழ்ந்து, பொல்லாப்பு அவனுக்கு நேரிட்டபோது களிகூர்ந்திருந்தேனோ?

29 If I rejoice at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

30 அவன் ஜீவனுக்குச் சாபத்தைக்கொடுக்கும்படி விரும்பி, வாயினால் பாவஞ்செய்ய நான் இடங்கொடுக்கவில்லை.

30 Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

31 அவன் இனத்தார்களில் திருப்தியாகாதவனைக் காண்பிப்பவன் யாரென்று என் கூடாரத்தின் மனுஷர் சொல்லார்களோ?

31 If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

32 பரதேசி வீதியிலே இராத்தங்கினதில்லை; வழிப்போக்கனுக்கு என் வாசல்களைத் திறந்தேன்.

32 The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.

33 நான் ஆதாமைப்போல என்மீறுதல்களை மூடி, என் அக்கிரமத்தை என் மடியிலே வைத்துவைத்தேனோ?

33 If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:

34 திரளான என் கூட்டத்துக்கு நான் பயந்ததினாலாவது, இனத்தார் ஜனத்தார் பண்ணும் இகழ்ச்சி என்னைத் திடுக்கிடப்பண்ணினதினாலாவது நான் பேசாதிருந்து, வாசற்படியை விட்டுப் புறப்படாதிருந்தேனோ?

34 Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?

35 ஆ, என் வழக்கைக் கேட்கிறவன் ஒருவன் இருந்தால் நலமாயிருக்கும்; இதோ, சர்வவல்லவர் எனக்கு உத்தரவு அருளிச்செய்யவும், என் எதிராளி தன் வழக்கை எழுதிக்கொடுக்கவும் எனக்கு விருப்பமுண்டு.

35 Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.

36 அதை நான் என் தோளின்மேல் வைத்து, எனக்குக் கிரீடமாகத் தரித்துக்கொள்வேனே.

36 Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.

37 அவனுக்கு நான் என் நடைகளைத் தொகை தொகையாய்க் காண்பித்து, ஒரு பிரபுவைப்போல அவனிடத்தில் போவேன்.

37 I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

38 எனக்கு விரோதமாக என் காணி பூமி கூப்பிடுகிறதும், அதின் படைச்சால்கள்கூட அழுகிறதும்,

38 If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain;

39 கூலிகொடாமல் நான் அதின் பலனைப் புசித்து, பயிரிட்டவர்களின் ஆத்துமாவை உபத்திரவப்படுத்தினதும் உண்டானால்,

39 If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:

40 அதில் கோதுமைக்குப் பதிலாக முள்ளும், வாற்கோதுமைக்குப் பதிலாகக் களையும் முளைக்கக்கடவது என்றான். யோபின் வார்த்தைகள் முடிந்தது.

40 Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of job are ended.
