1 ஞானமுள்ள மகன் தகப்பனுடைய போதகத்தைக் கேட்கிறான்; பரியாசக்காரனோ கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலுக்குச் செவிகொடான்.

1 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

2 மனுஷன் தன் வாயின் பலனால் நன்மையைப் புசிப்பான்; துன்மார்க்கனின் ஆத்துமாவோ கொடுமையைப் புசிக்கும்.

2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

3 தன் வாயைக் காக்கிறவன் தன் பிராணனைக் காக்கிறான்; தன் உதடுகளை விரிவாய்த் திறக்கிறவனோ கலக்கமடைவான்.

3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

4 சோம்பேறியுடைய ஆத்துமா விரும்பியும் ஒன்றும் பெறாது; ஜாக்கிரதையுள்ளவர்களுடைய ஆத்துமாவோ புஷ்டியாகும்.

4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

5 நீதிமான் பொய்ப்பேச்சை வெறுக்கிறான்; துன்மார்க்கனோ வெட்கமும் இலச்சையும் உண்டாக்குகிறான்.

5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

6 நீதி உத்தமமார்க்கத்தானைத் தற்காக்கும்; துன்மார்க்கமோ பாவியைக் கவிழ்த்துப்போடும்.

6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

7 ஒன்றுமில்லாதிருக்கத் தன்னைச் செல்வனாகப் பாராட்டுகிறவனும் உண்டு; மிகுந்த செல்வமிருக்கத் தன்னைத் தரித்திரனாகப் பாராட்டுகிறவனும் உண்டு.

7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

8 மனுஷனுடைய ஐசுவரியம் அவன் பிராணனை மீட்கும்; தரித்திரனோ மிரட்டுதலைக் கேளாதிருக்கிறான்.

8 The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

9 நீதிமான்களின் வெளிச்சம் சந்தோஷிப்பிக்கும்; துன்மார்க்கரின் தீபமோ அணைந்துபோம்.

9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

10 அகந்தையினால்மாத்திரம் வாது பிறக்கும்; ஆலோசனையைக் கேட்கிறவர்களிடத்திலோ ஞானம் உண்டு.

10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

11 வஞ்சனையால் தேடின பொருள் குறைந்துபோம்; கைப்பாடாய்ச் சேர்க்கிறவனோ விருத்தியடைவான்.

11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

12 நெடுங்காலமாய்க் காத்திருக்குதல் இருதயத்தை இளைக்கப்பண்ணும்; விரும்பினது வரும்போதோ ஜீவவிருட்சம்போல் இருக்கும்.

12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

13 திருவசனத்தை அவமதிக்கிறவன் நாசமடைவான்; கற்பனைக்குப் பயப்படுகிறவனோ பலனடைவான்.

13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

14 ஞானவான்களுடைய போதகம் ஜீவஊற்று; அதினால் மரணக்கண்ணிகளுக்குத் தப்பலாம்.

14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

15 நற்புத்தி தயையை உண்டாக்கும்; துரோகிகளுடைய வழியோ கரடுமுரடானது.

15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

16 விவேகியானவன் அறிவோடு நடந்துகொள்ளுகிறான், மூடனோ தன் மூடத்தனத்தை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறான்.

16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

17 துரோகமுள்ள தூதன் தீதிலே விழுவான்; உண்மையுள்ள ஸ்தானாபதியோ ஔஷதம்.

17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

18 புத்திமதிகளைத் தள்ளுகிறவன் தரித்திரத்தையும் இலச்சையையும் அடைவான்; கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலைக் கவனித்து நடக்கிறவனோ கனமடைவான்.

18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

19 வாஞ்சை நிறைவேறுவது ஆத்துமாவுக்கு இனிது; தீமையை விட்டு விலகுவது மூடருக்கு அருவருப்பு.

19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20 ஞானிகளோடே சஞ்சரிக்கிறவன் ஞானமடைவான்; மூடருக்குத் தோழனோ நாசமடைவான்.

20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

21 பாவிகளைத் தீவினை தொடரும்; நீதிமான்களுக்கோ நன்மை பலனாக வரும்.

21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

22 நல்லவன் தன் பிள்ளைகளின் பிள்ளைகளுக்குச் சுதந்தரம் வைத்துப்போகிறான்: பாவியின் ஆஸ்தியோ நீதிமானுக்காக சேர்த்துவைக்கப்படும்.

22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

23 ஏழைகளின் வயல் மிகுதியான ஆகாரத்தை விளைவிக்கும்; நியாயம் கிடையாமல் கெட்டுப்போகிறவர்களும் உண்டு.

23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

24 பிரம்பைக் கையாடாதவன் தன் மகனைப் பகைக்கிறான்; அவன்மேல் அன்பாயிருக்கிறவனோ அவனை ஏற்கனவே தண்டிக்கிறான்.

24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

25 நீதிமான் தனக்குத் திருப்தியாகப் புசிக்கிறான்; துன்மார்க்கருடைய வயிறோ பசித்திருக்கும்.

25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
